Rachel's Story

Hey there. I'm Rachel.

Daughter to two lovely parents, big sister to one partner-in-crime, a passionate skincare enthusiast, and founder of Osme. 
I was born in South Korea but grew up in central Canada since I was two years old. Thanks to my parents, I grew up with my roots intact with the Korean culture: I learned the language, ate the food, and even used kbeauty brands such as Mamonde, Innisfree and Sulwasoo before kbeauty became a global sensation.

If you live in Canada or have visited, you’ll know that our winters are bitterly cold and harsh on the skin. For this reason, since I was young, my parents reminded me to moisturize my hands and face. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate them for this because what began as an act of obedience quickly evolved into a passion. I was curious and eager to learn. I wanted to discover the secrets to keeping my skin healthy, learn how and why certain products and ingredients work versus others. It wasn’t long until I became a skincare buff—that friend you go to for tips and tricks.

While it’d be nice to segue into a conclusion saying that I turned my passion into a brand, by doing so, I’d only be telling half the story.

In 2017, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes… This came as a bit of a rude awakening. Not only did I maintain an average lifestyle that bordered on the healthier side, but my family also had no history of diabetes or diseases of any kind. Before I could wrap my mind around the news, I had to quickly rediscover a new way of life—a new rhythm—which included 24/7 glucose level monitoring and daily insulin injections.

Admittedly, I was confused and downcast for a few months. That is until a close friend encouraged me to take my weakness and turn it into my strength. That’s when I had a eureka moment to start Osme: a skincare brand dedicated to creating gentle and eco-friendly products and improving the lives of people through education, creative solutions, financial support and meaningful partnerships.

I truly believe that with your love and support, we can build a community of skincare enthusiasts that not only has healthy, glowing skin but one that promotes healthy living by using eco-friendly and cruelty-free products, of which a portion of the proceeds go towards improving the lives of people in need.

Osme was founded when my hope to improve people’s lives evolved into a vision, mission and action. I hope you see Osme's pursuits and holistic approach worth joining and choose it to be a part of your skincare journey.
